Why Aluminum for Battery Enclosures

Five engineering reasons 2W/3W OEMs choose aluminum — extrusion, CNC & anodizing, one integrated production network

Lightweight = Longer Range

Aluminum is 2.7 g/cm³ vs steel 7.8 g/cm³ — up to 50% lighter at equal strength. Less dead weight means longer range per charge or more passengers carried — the #1 buying factor for Indian e-rickshaw and e-scooter operators.

Thermal Management for Battery Safety

With summer temperatures regularly above 40°C, heat is the #1 threat to 2W/3W battery packs. Aluminum’s high thermal conductivity pulls heat away from cells, reducing thermal runaway risk and extending battery life.

Built for Monsoon & Salt Spray

India’s monsoon rains, flooded streets and coastal humidity destroy steel housings within months. Anodized aluminum resists corrosion, rust and peeling paint — year after year.

IP65 / IP67 Sealing

Dust and water ingress are deal-breakers for battery enclosures. Our extrusion, CNC machining and gasket assembly achieve IP65/IP67 sealing to keep cells dry through puddles, dust and heavy rain.

Crash & Vibration Resistance

Potholes, speed bumps and rough roads are everyday reality for Indian 2W/3W vehicles. One-piece extruded enclosures absorb shock far better than welded sheet metal — no weld seams to crack, no rattling joints.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to what 2W/3W buyers ask before the first order.

What information do you need to quote?+
To prepare an accurate quotation, we need your CAD drawing (STEP/IGES/PDF), target alloy and temper (e.g. 6063-T5), surface finish requirement (mill finish, anodized, powder coated), estimated annual volume, and any IP rating or testing standard you must meet. If you only have a physical sample or hand sketch, send photos with key dimensions — our engineers can reverse-engineer it.
Can you manufacture enclosures to IP67?+
Yes. We design and produce IP67-rated aluminum battery enclosures for e-rickshaw and e-scooter applications. Our sealing strategy combines precision CNC-machined grooves, silicone gasket integration, and threaded-seal fastener layouts validated by immersion and dust-chamber testing. We can also advise on venting and thermal-management cutouts while maintaining seal integrity.
Do you accept prototype or small trial orders?+
Absolutely. We encourage prototype and trial-batch orders starting from 200 kg to validate fit, finish and performance before committing to volume. Typical prototype lead time is 2–3 weeks depending on complexity. This lowers your risk and lets us fine-tune tolerances and sealing details with real-world feedback.
What aluminum alloys and tempers do you offer?+
Our standard offerings are 6063-T5 (excellent extrudability and corrosion resistance, ideal for enclosures) and 6061-T6 (higher strength, preferred for structural trays and mounting brackets). We can also source 6005A-T6 or custom alloys upon request. All material certifications and mill-test reports (MTC) are available.
What is your typical lead time?+
  • Prototype / trial batch: 2–3 weeks
  • Mass production (extrusion + CNC + anodizing): 4–6 weeks after drawing approval
  • Repeat orders: 3–4 weeks
Urgent orders can be expedited by running dedicated tooling slots. We confirm the exact schedule in your quotation.
What surface finishes are available?+
  • Mill finish (as-extruded)
  • Clear / colored anodizing (Type II, 8–15 µm; Type III hardcoat on request)
  • Powder coating (RAL color matching)
  • Chemical conversion coating (for EMI/grounding applications)
Anodizing is our most requested finish for battery enclosures — it combines corrosion resistance, electrical insulation and a premium appearance.
Do you provide CNC machining and anodizing in-house?+
Yes — extrusion, CNC machining and anodizing are delivered as one integrated production network. Our own CNC workshop runs 60+ 3/4/5-axis machining centers with ±0.05 mm precision (open for factory audit), and the network includes 1,000–5,000 MT extrusion presses plus both vertical and horizontal anodizing lines. Single-source accountability reduces tolerance stack-up, shortens lead times and simplifies quality responsibility.
Can you customize dimensions, hole patterns and mounting features?+
Full customization is our core capability. We machine custom hole patterns, boss locations, cable-gland cutouts, thermal slots, threaded inserts and mounting rails to your exact drawing. Tolerances typically held to ±0.05 mm on critical dimensions. Send us your drawing and we will flag manufacturability suggestions within 24 hours.
What is your MOQ?+
Standard MOQ is 500 kg per profile for mass production. We accept trial orders from 200 kg to help you validate the design and market response. For large-volume contracts (20,000+ pieces/year), we can dedicate extrusion dies and negotiate preferential pricing.
How do you ensure quality?+
  • Incoming: billet certification and spectrometry check
  • In-process: dimensional inspection (CMM), wall-thickness verification
  • Post-machining: hole-pattern verification, thread-check gauges
  • Surface: anodizing film-thickness and color consistency check
  • Final: assembly-fit test, seal-pressure test (IP-rated units), visual inspection
Inspection reports provided; third-party inspection (SGS/BV) available on request.
